Real Estate
Estate planning is about protecting you, your family, and your assets in the event of your death or incapacitation.
Did you know everyone has an estate? An estate is defined as all the money and property owned by a particular person, especially at death. It doesn’t matter how much or how little you possess, each one of us has an estate, and it’s prudent that we proactively formulate a plan to determine how it is best handled in life and death. The alternative? The alternative to a proactive plan is crisis planning, which usually means that some is in a desperate situation to protect their assets and/or receive the medical care they need for a sudden, long-term illness.
So what’s the plan?
There is no one size fits all plan. An estate plan is customized based on one’s individual needs and circumstances. At its very core an estate plan determines how assets will be managed during one’s life, how health care decisions will be handled should one become incapacitated, how financial control issues will be handled, and how property and assets will be distributed upon death. Many people shy away from proactively addressing these items as most people don’t wish to think about their own mortality. It’s understandable. However, like most difficult things, ignoring it doesn’t make it go away; in fact, it usually makes things worse than if it was addressed earlier. Trust us when we say you do not want to be in crisis mode. While we can help you to navigate crisis planning, it is not an ideal position to be in.
